I just finished a 2 day course on Macromedia Dreamweaver 8! At least now I know more about creating a website. When my instructor asked what other softwares have we use to create a website before, everybody say Frontpage, then I say NVU, and he said he never heard of NVU before. I wonder if he’s sua gu or the software is so idiot proof that he never heard of it. Now to think of it, I think it’s too idiot proof already, feeling a bit paiseh that I even said it out =X
Some idiotic things for newbies (which is me) that I didn’t realized…
1) I should not resize my pictures in Dreamweaver! The picture will end up looking pixelated, even if you resize it smaller. I guess the same apply for uploading pictures in blogs as well. No wonder my pictures always look so pixelated, I always wondered why, my hp camera is 5megapixels k! Don’t play play! But why put in always pixelated one??? I know resize to a bigger size the quality will run, but smaller won’t what… Don’t make sense right.. NOW I KNOW. In future, I will resize my pictures in photoshop, thank you teacher.
2) I am able to identify the little little HTML codes in a webpage, but of cos I can’t identify them all la, don’t tap tap on my shoulder and ask me:
“oei! what code is this??”
“I don’t know la!”
“Don’t know??? I thought you take Dreamweaver course one!!”
Sorry, a bit drama here, but my colleagues like to do this kinda things so.. ya, you get the idea la.
At least they don’t look so alien to me when I’m viewing my code pages in my blog nowadays. My instructor amazed me when he was troubleshooting my page for me today. I was trying to shift up my navigation bar and it refuses to let me do it, no matter how I shift them or press backspace, it refuse to budge. Then my instructor went into the codes and edit something here, type in something there and the problem is solved! Wow. I only learnt the break code from him. Regretted not making more mistakes cos I realized I can learn more secret codes from him from my mistakes.
3) CSS is so useful! I wish I will have a chance to use them, but you will only appreciate it when you have a website to maintain, especially one with dozens and thousands of pages, don’t think I will have a chance.
On the 1st day of lesson, we did a lot of copying and pasting to create few pages of a website cos our nice nice instructor had already prepare the materials and content for us. It’s after all a 2 day only course and we can only learn the techniques of Dreamweaver and not the concept of developing a website, and of course we learn CSS!
On the 2nd day of lesson, I learn how to create links, links and links! How to link to here and there.. how to change the color of the link, before you click it, and after it has been click on, when you hover your mouse over it.. ETC…
I also learnt that you have to press shift and enter to enter without any spacing… (Yes I don’t know!!) I always find the blog irritating cos the enter got spacing. =X
ok enough of all these, if not I will have to type out all my notes here, although most of it are in this blog already =X
Some useful websites from my instructor, I still haven’t check them out yet…
